It's Happy Hour Somewhere!

Posted on Thursday, December 26, 2013

With shorter days and colder evenings, we don’t get to spend as much time as we would prefer on the beach. Thankfully, Destin has some great restaurants for us to pass away the time until it gets warm again. Harry T’s Lighthouse restaurant is a local and tourist favorite with waterfront views and delicious seafood. On Monday nights you can watch football in the downstairs bar and order the Wing Special of 10 wings for $2.49. Every weekday, Happy Hour is from 11am-7pm, the perfect time to try...

An Evening at Mimmo's

Posted on Friday, September 6, 2013

As I walked past the Little Caesar's store front from my parking spot I had no idea what I would find behind door number two! I was not reluctant at all to try the new Italian Restaurant in Destin.  Mimmo's had only been open for a few weeks and already I was bombarded with positive comments from my friends and peers on their experience. From the looks of the crowded parking lot I was not the only curious, hungry soul wanting to taste what the fuss was about! I opened the...

Then there is the local, who is trying to find a way to live as close to a vacationer as possible. Thus the reason “Happy Hour” is such an important phrase in our town. Destin’s Latest Bite for Breakfast

Posted on Sunday, January 8, 2012

There’s a new breakfast spot in Destin right next to Mellow Mushroom and across from Another Broken Egg. As tempting as it was to turn right into a familiar restaurant that I’m assured of getting delicious food and great service I decided to live on the edge. Left I turned into a big yellow shopping plaza announcing in bold yellow letters The Pancakery .   I walk in to a friendly, eager to serve waiter that was so refreshing I failed to notice how empty the place was! While lines pile out...

Big City Taste in Fort Walton Beach

Posted on Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Tucked away on Brookes Street sits Big City American Bistro. Hidden but never secluded, the word is out! This place is where you want to eat! It’s a casual, open atmosphere with prices that don’t hurt the pocket book and flavor that belongs in a five star restaurant.   I arrived at Big City American Bistro for a late lunch and from the time I was seated to the time I left the entire wait staff was hustling and bustling to accommodate a crowd. People continued to pile in with no break...

Destin has a new favorite Happy Hour and you can find me there any given night between 4:30 and 9:00pm, Cuvee Bistro. It’s a Trendy restaurant with a fun, locals’ atmosphere. Owned and operated by Destin’s most cherished chef Tim Creehan, so it doesn’t hurt that the food is amazing too. Cuvee Bistro is quickly becoming the “place to be” in Destin. Sunday Brunch on 30A

Posted on Friday, April 15, 2011

Last Sunday I found myself driving down 30A with friends looking for a breakfast spot. We are all locals and looking for a change from the standard breakfast places we always seem to end up at. We stumbled across Stinky’s Fish Camp and decided to give it a try.     I had never been there and must admit the name had me a bit hesitant. The friends I was with had tried it for dinner and assured me that the restaurant did not live up to its name. I was pleased to find they...

790 North is Local’s Favorite Snowbird Lunch Spot

Posted on Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Last week my husband and I were looking for somewhere different to go for lunch, we were tired of our usual spots. I suggested 790 North which rests on the first floor of The Inn at Crystal Beach on Scenic Hwy 98. He said “Isn’t that kind of expensive, it’s right on the Gulf and I think they are pretty pricey. This is just lunch.” I said that we should at least check out the menu and what a wonderful surprise! Besides their regular every day menu items like duck and Andouille gumbo, spicy hurricane...

Grand Favorite for Seafood & Cocktails

Being a local, and having a business on the Beach, you try them all but stick with the best restaurants and bars. One of our favorites is The Grand Marlin . You can enjoy the main dining area with an oyster bar, or a personal favorite, the North Drop Bar. For company it's family-friendly and consistently serves high quality cuisine, including fresh seafood (when available) and all the island cocktails. What is enjoyable is the island-casual atmosphere, where you can show up in flip flops,...

Score Your Next Meal at Sidelines

Posted on Monday, August 16, 2010

Sidelines Sports Bar is a casual restaurant located on Pensacola Beach. Your typical sports bar with an abundance of televisions around the restaurant blaring your favorite game. Convenient speakers on each table allowing you to choose which game you’d like to watch. Not a place for conversation, but awesome for those days you want to sit back with friends, enjoy a delicious meal, a cold beer, and a good yell at the umpire. Unlike most sports bars I was quite impressed with the menu options that...

George's is a trendy, frog-themed restaurant set on 30-A in Alys Beach. Casual dining inside this quaint cottage-style restaurant or outside on the patio where there is a cool ocean breeze. Judging by the crowd on and off season, George’s is the place to eat in South Walton. Italian Done Cozy by the Harbor

Posted on Wednesday, August 11, 2010

La Famiglia is great, great, great for three reasons. One -- it’s authentic. The menu opens with a warm welcome from the Rella family in almost perfect English and it’s as adorable as the décor. The family is totally Italian and so is the food. I love how the whole family works together to make the restaurant work. Two - they have the best Pizza. I order my own pizza: la rustica, a white chicken pizza, and I eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and refuse to share. Three --...

Traditional Southern Fare is Tops at Cock of the Walk

Posted on Friday, July 4, 2008

Any restaurant wishing to channel a theme could be inspired by the vehemence of Cock of the Walk. Echoing its idiomatic name, Cock of the Walk flaunts its Mississippi Riverboat persona with a wide theatrical range. Located off East Nine Mile Road near University Parkway, the restaurant opened in 1999 on a private wooded lot. Since then, progress has bequeathed a nearby Kohl's, Target and a host of other businesses. Somehow, the restaurant has managed to retain some of its verdant quality. "We...
