Deep South Market is Not Your Average Market

Posted on Tuesday, December 13, 2016

Gulf Place welcomed Deep South Market this fall and it’s been a nice addition to the town center. Owners Jeff and Vickie Miller also own the Perfect Pig and were eager to open a place with interesting products that you can’t find everywhere. That’s what we love about Deep South Market – you can find great items for gifts or unique treats if you’re hosting a party. When you walk in, you might not be sure if it’s a deli, a grocery store, or a gift shop but it’s actually all three! As for the...

First Watch is Open in Destin

Posted on Tuesday, September 27, 2016

A new little café is open in Destin and we were pleasantly surprised when we checked it out. First Watch snuck into Paradise Key Shopping Center recently and it’s not your average breakfast spot. Inside is spacious with rustic décor and plenty of seating options. They provide breakfast and lunch featuring produce from local growers. They open at 7am and everything is made to order. While you can find pancakes, salads, and sandwiches, First Watch takes it up a few notches with their...

Rollin Smoke BBQ Opens in Destin Commons

Posted on Thursday, September 17, 2015

We are always happy to get new great restaurants in the Destin Commons and a barbecue place was just what we needed. Aaron and Ruthann Vipperman recently moved their food truck business "Rollin Smoke BBQ"  into a new location in the Commons. The popular restaurant features fresh barbecue pork, chicken, beef and sausage each day of the week. Vipperman has eight years of experience in smoking meats and his smoking style is fully wood based. He uses a pit-style barbecue with a gravity...

Yay Beignets opened in Destin Florida at the beginning of the year and we welcomed the addition with open arms. Located next to the waterpark area in the Commons across from the movie theatre, the beignet stand has been busy since it opened. Along with the famous New Orleans style treats, the family-run business boasts Snowballs and Cajun Meatpies as well. Now we no longer have to cross those state lines to get our fix at Café Dumonde. Yay Beignets sells the popular mix and their own powdery...

The Destin Diner has been sitting vacant near Airport Road in Destin, Florida for the past six years. We were happy to find out that the memorable retro-style restaurant was purchased by Oliver Petit, owner of the popular restaurant Red Bar. The Petit family is well loved around the country for bringing us the Grayton Beach hot spot as well as Louis Louis and most recently, Bric a Brac .   Petit says there were many renovations to be made inside but has left the exterior to keep the same...

These are our top restaurants in the 30A area: Louis Louis is located in Santa Rosa Beach and never disappoints. Brought to us by the same family who gave us Red Bar, Louis Louis has the same red lights with eclectic flair decorating the walls. If you are going out with another couple...

Bluepoint, Poppy’s Time-Out, and Groovy Grouper are just a few of the ones that have stayed a while next to Bass Pro Shop.  The newest is El Jalisco and we really hope this is permanent. The Time of the Oyster

Posted on Tuesday, October 28, 2014

You know the rule: Only eat oysters in months that end in ‘R’. Of course, you can eat them any time you want but the best and safest time is in R months. Don’t be afraid of cheap oysters during this time either. Some are easier to harvest and become less expensive for restaurants to provide.      So where is the best place to eat oysters in town? Living in Destin Florida on the Gulf Coast, we are lucky to have lots of great places for seafood. Here are a few of the places we have...

Traditional Southern Fare is Tops at Cock of the Walk

Any restaurant wishing to channel a theme could be inspired by the vehemence of Cock of the Walk. Echoing its idiomatic name, Cock of the Walk flaunts its Mississippi Riverboat persona with a wide theatrical range. Located off East Nine Mile Road near University Parkway, the restaurant opened in 1999 on a private wooded lot. Since then, progress has bequeathed a nearby Kohl's, Target and a host of other businesses. Somehow, the restaurant has managed to retain some of its verdant quality. "We...
