Deep South Market is Not Your Average Market

Posted on Tuesday, December 13, 2016

Gulf Place welcomed Deep South Market this fall and it’s been a nice addition to the town center. Owners Jeff and Vickie Miller also own the Perfect Pig and were eager to open a place with interesting products that you can’t find everywhere. That’s what we love about Deep South Market – you can find great items for gifts or unique treats if you’re hosting a party. When you walk in, you might not be sure if it’s a deli, a grocery store, or a gift shop but it’s actually all three! As for the...

What’s New at Grand Boulevard

Posted on Friday, December 2, 2016

Grand Boulevard’s Town Center has grown quite a bit over the past few years and continues to expand with exciting additions. Last year, we had Menchie’s frozen yogurt store open next to Starbucks. Then Anthropologie and Lilly Pulitzer opened across from the movie theatre. The people of Destin were pretty happy with these new shops and it’s getting even better.  Grand Fitness opened this year on the second floor across from the theatre in over 20,000 square feet. The locally owned and operated...

For Destin, Florida, the dates for no tax are August 5th-7th. We can expect the  Destin Commons and Silver Sands Premium Outlet Mall to be extra packed but with good reason. The Outlet...

Destin Commons Welcomes Hickory Farms

Posted on Friday, December 9, 2011

One of my fondest memories as a child was around the age of 4. My mother was a big shopper so we visited the Westland Mall in Miami, Florida often. We would pass store after store until we came across a man standing outside a red gingham tarp offering samples of smoked cheddar. I can remember passing by the stand over and over again for another taste. So my love affair with cheese began and obsession with a store called Hickory Farms. Living in Destin for 15 + years, I resolved to the fact...

Harborwalk Village Now Welcomes Tourists & Residents

Posted on Wednesday, June 4, 2008

The pace of HarborWalk seems to be more of a run. A month ago, visitors to the construction zone at the foot of Marler Bridge and in the shadow of Emerald Grande would walk through piles of sand under hulking structures with no facades. A half-built lighthouse that will be a trademark of the new Harry T’s restaurant would cast a shadow on construction crews working furiously below. One month later, the walkway is paved in an elegant brick pattern, the lighthouse is complete and crews are putting...

Strolling along Destin's harbor, step by step

Posted on Wednesday, August 9, 2006

A man is giving himself a shower with a garden hose at step 271. Employees are getting chewed out over the condition of a pontoon boat at step 5. Exactly how far is it to walk the stretch of dock from just west of Lucky Snapper east toward Fisherman’s Wharf? Guesses of a million, 525, 168 and 933 steps were all guesses ventured by the uninformed. The answer? 633 steps. The...
